Luke & Katie met while they were studying at Point Loma Nazarene University. They were with a group of friends in North Park. While walking around at Ray at Night Art Walk, Luke remembers seeing Katie for the first time. In his words, she was “tall, elegant, and completely out of my league.”
Their love for adventure is infectious! Whether it be exploring new cities, restaurants, breweries or seeing their favorite band… Katie loves how Luke keeps things exciting and fun. One thing I really love about these two is how grateful they truly are for each other. Katie sees Luke as full of grace and generosity. Luke says that “Katie just gets me… I don’t know how I got so lucky.”
When asked to share one thing they are really looking forward to about their wedding, Luke can’t wait to see her for the first time, walking down the aisle. He says, “I have never been more excited for anything in my life than seeing her walk down the aisle towards me. She makes me the luckiest man alive.” Exchanging of vows is really important to them too.
Luke put together an amazing proposal for Katie! She told him very early on in their relationship that her number one bucket list item was to wade in a field of cranberries (yes, like you see in the Ocean Spray commercials). Luke knew this was how he wanted to propose, but the fine details didn’t come into fruition until 3 years later. He was able to contact a grower on the Olympic Peninsula, near where Luke grew up in Washington. The farmer agreed, so these two flew up to Washington from Southern California. When they pulled up to the farm, Katie got out of the car and found a brand new pair of waders sitting in the trunk for her. Katie and Luke put their waders on and walked through the cranberry bog, passing cranberries through their fingers on a cool October morning. Along the bank, Luke’s brother and two friends had set up a picnic area, which consisted of a blanket, picnic basket, and a bottle of champagne. They got out of the bog and walked over to the blanket where Luke got on one knee and asked his best friend to marry him. They drove back to his hometown where both families were waiting to celebrate. That night the surprises continued with an engagement party, where Katie’s childhood best friend (maid of honor) had flown up to see her and celebrate. October third, will forever be one of the best days of their life.
I had a blast hanging out with these two in Little Italy as well as Marian Bear Park for their Engagement Session! I’m so excited to document Luke & Katie as they step into this incredible life-long commitment to each other!
